Life gets busy when you are a parent, it doesn’t matter if you are a work at home, stay at home, or go to work in an office parent, kids are a lot of work. It is too easy to get bogged down in the day to day stresses and forget to play. Here are three tips to get a little more play in your day, because to your child that is what they really want, your undivided attention and a few laughs.
1) Set the alarm for 15 minutes earlier and make sure you are prepared for the day by selecting clothes, packing backpacks and finding shoes and socks the night before. Your extra time in the morning can give you an opportunity to just sit and chat with your little one, or sing a funny song on the way to school. When you are not stressed and running late you will enjoy your morning and have a little time to play.
2) Invite your little one(s) into the kitchen when it is time to prepare dinner. Most kids will love to help and it is a great time to teach a little lesson on cooking, measuring and healthy eating.
3) Make the ordinary extraordinary. Turn a regular errand into a fun scavenger hunt, or reward a job well done with a quarter for the gumball machine giving them something to look forward to after the shopping is done. I will sandwich a fun stop for the kids on a day we have to do errands, so we might start with the post office, letting them help mail the letters, then a quick walk through the park to burn off a little energy before we go to the grocery store.
